Online Gay Club Entertainment

The State Of Gay Entertainment Today

As recently as a few years ago, gay entertainment as an entity was practically non-existent. The gay lifestyle itself was, pardon the pun, so much in the closet that it was almost unheard of outside strict underground circles. The stigma attached, and the associated potential for violence, meant that gay entertainment had no possibility of entering the mainstream arena. Some credit the advent of the internet for the change that has begun in this area. Now, more than ever, gay entertainment is out there. While there is still a long way to go, the past decade has seen an unprecedented rise in the number of gay clubs, gay cruises, gay dating networks and gay television shows. There are even a few non-pornographic channels dedicated strictly to gay entertainment.

While not as common in smaller cities and town, gay clubs are popping up in every major city of the world, and they are being accepted. Amazingly, even though these clubs cater to a gay clientele, their patrons are often a mix of sexualities. Even clubs which do not identify as seeking to attract solely gay patrons often classify themselves as being gay-friendly. Gone are the days of slinking out of a badly lit parking lot for fear that one should be seen and recognized.
Even if social networking through clubbing is not possible in a particular area, all one needs to do is have a secure internet connection. The number of sites catering to gay entertainment is growing daily, and singles sites are seeing the biggest growth spurt. Even sites that are predominantly focused on gay issues will have an area where members can post profiles and meet other people. While a few of the main dating sites such as eHarmony.com remain staunchly geared towards male/female couplings, many of the others including Match.com have expanded to include gay members. In fact, online dating like www.onlinegayclub.com is fast becoming the preferred choice for many since it allows for getting to know the other person before actually meeting face to face.

Another option for meeting people, or for just relaxing and partaking in some gay entertainment , is to take a vacation. Unfortunately, not every cruise line and docking port is as accepting as one would like. For this reason, many travel agencies are attempting to woo their gay clientele by arranging trips strictly to open and accepting destinations. Agencies such as Out and About, and Gay Travel have set up complete tours which include accommodation in gay-friendly hotels. They even have all the information that you’ll need in searchable databases on their websites so that you can plan your own trip if you are so inclined. Even is your idea of gay entertainment is a cruise, there is something for you. Olivia Travel lists most of the gay-friendly cruises that are available and they even have their own Caribbean island so you can be assured that you will not be bothered.

For those who are more inclined to be homebodies, there is always television. Television connoisseurs seeking gay entertainment in the past were left sorely lacking. It was rare to see a gay character at all, much less portrayed in a positive light. Gay male characters were altogether unheard of while gay female characters, or lesbians, were portrayed as scheming individuals who ultimately perished in the end. It may not yet be safe to say that gay entertainment has come a long way, but it is getting there. While there are still many negative portrayals of gay individuals, there are also quite a few positive ones. The ultimate consequence is that more and more actors and actresses are willing to take on gay roles. Many of the gay and lesbian roles on television today are played by straight actors and actresses. In fact, most of the actresses on Showtime’s breakaway hit The L-Word are heterosexual. They simply either don’t care that they are seen as being involved in gay entertainment, or they care enough to use their actions as a means of solidarity.

Pioneers in the field of gay entertainment, such as Ellen DeGeneres and Melissa Etheridge, have allowed for this to happen by taking strong stands regarding their views and their own personal lives. By offering themselves up to media scrutiny and being accepted by and large, they have shown the big companies that gay entertainment can be profitable. Even the music world is jumping on the bandwagon. A few years ago, admitting that one was gay would have been a career death sentence. Now, artistes are actively trying to appeal to their gay fan base. Think back to T.A.T.U who roared unto the scene in the midst of a scandal regarding the sexuality of the two young girls who comprised the group. What a day for gay entertainment when artistes were pretending to be gay in order to boost sales! The general public to be more accepting, apart from the traditionalists, and this can mean great things for gay entertainment.
